Performing at Shuvatara School and performing and teaching at Thames College in Kathmandu, Nepal!
Sarah’s morning show at Shuvatara was packed full of surprises. First, there was a hand-drawn banner to welcome her. Then there were “Khada” banners draped over her shoulders for good luck. Then there was an amazing band that played Nepali folk music while she and the students and staff danced. Not to mention the wonderful part where some of the Word Warriors came to perform alongside her! Then, after lunch, Sarah returned to Thames college, this time to perform for the actual students that attend the college. She also led a workshop for Thames students. Much thanks to the wonderful ladies who came to perform and teach along with Sarah! (Photos by Ujjwala Maharjan.)

Having a conversation about “The Power of Spoken Word” with Gaurab Subba at the Bakery Café in Sundhara, Kathmandu, Nepal!
Sarah had a wonderful afternoon having a public conversation with the extremely charming and terrifically talented Gaurab Subba. Gaurab is an experienced poet and hip hop artist from Nepal’s local “Nep Hop” scene. Together, he and Sarah spoke about topics ranging from travel to childhood to writing styles, and everything in between. Much thanks to the folks who came out to listen and ask questions. Reviewed in the Kathmandu Post!
What a blush-worthy review from writer Pranaya SJB Rana. Rana writes: “Sarah, beautiful and effervescent, held the packed audience in a rapturous embrace. From watching her perform at TED or the myriad videos on YouTube, there are a few things that a viewer can’t quite tell. First, that she’s tall. Then, that this 23-year-old commands the stage with effortless confidence, exuding charm and spirit. But what does come across through video and in person is that her poems are so much persona, bravado, experience and emotion. There are matters of little import to others and yet, the way she tells it, she could very well be narrating the end of the world. She spoke and in speaking, gave advice. Her metaphors were insights, the melody her voice. Walking away, there was something intangible in the air, as if struck with something too incomprehensible to behold. Maybe this is what poetry does. Walking away, men and women, girls and boys, I think we all fell in love with Sarah Kay.” Click here to read the whole article.

Performing at the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu and performing at the Jatra Restaurant in Thamel, Kathmandu, Nepal!
What a busy morning, followed by a magical night. Sarah performed at the U.S. Embassy for an audience of diplomats, staff members, and local school children from Nepal Model School as well. Then she got ready for the big show at Jatra Restaurant in Thamel. 200 people showed up! The outdoor seating with the strings of fairy lights dotting the trees made everything seem mystical. Plus, Sarah was thrilled to have some of her students from the Word Warriors workshops open the show! The audience was overflowing with love. What a joyful night. Performing and teaching at Lincoln School and leading a performance workshop with the Word Warriors Group at Thames College in Kathmandu, Nepal!
Lincoln School is an American school, and there are a lot of expats and international kids, which reminded Sarah of her upbringing at the United Nations International School in New York City. After a brief performance and workshop with high school students, she ran back to Thames College for workshop #2 with the Word Warrior poets. Today’s workshop focused mainly on performance, with some fantastic work shared by everyone present. Thanks to all the Word Warriors for their dedication and openness.
