Much thanks to Kevin Jacobson for including Project VOICE in such a successful event.

Speaking at Carleton College’s Convocation, Teaching a workshop with their Slam Poets, and Performing at their Student Poetry Show in Northfield, MN!
What a wonderful day. Sarah started the morning with a keynote address at Carleton’s Convocation (pictured above, photo by Peter Varnum). It was held in a beautiful church, and full of students. Later, Sarah got to sit in on the Carleton Slam Poetry Collective’s weekly meeting. It was an absolute joy to get to write, share, and listen to what these talented poets are creating. Later still, Sarah performed in a more informal show and was shocked to discover it a packed house. Not as shocked as she was about the weather, though: A blizzard on April 19? Come on, Minnesota! Thanks to everyone for making today such a fantastic experience despite the weather.

Performing at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT!
So what if Sarah just arrived back from a month long tour in Asia? So what if she hasn’t stopped moving yet? So what if she’s still crazy jet-lagged? University of Bridgeport will take her anyway! Not only will they take her, they will show her an awesome time. Much thanks to the ladies who put together the show, as well as the talented student poets of S.L.A.M. who opened for her, AND Clay, student of Ron Rapice, who was a rockstar. Much thanks to everyone for coming, including Sarah’s folks who made a surprise appearance!

Speaking at the Women in Foodservice Forum in Orlando, Florida!
This is certainly a different crowd than Sarah is used to. Plus one of the biggest stages she has ever stepped foot on. But the room was just as lively and focused as ever, and she had the opportunity to meet a bunch of interesting folks she might never have crossed paths with otherwise. Much thanks to the organizers!

Grinnell, IA.
This fancy hat is what the President of Grinnell College
gets to wear at commencement. Nobody else gets to wear
such a stylin’ chapeau. However, if you get an Honorary
Doctorate of Humane Letters, you do get to wear a
velvet sash/hood over your cap and gown. So. That’s
pretty sweet. And by “pretty sweet” I mean “an unbelievably
exciting moment in my life and huge freaking honor.”

Performing at the Home Club in Singapore!
300+ people crammed into Home Club to see Phil and Sarah perform tonight. And about 100 more people couldn’t fit in the club, so they stayed on the sidewalk outside and listened to the whole show blaring through speakers. It was unbelievable. So much love and gratitude to everyone who came and to the great folks at Word Forward for putting this together!

Performing at the Raffles Girls School in Singapore!
This show got added super last minute, but it was one of the most important school visits Sarah has ever had. The young women at Raffles showed such talent, charisma, and courage in the work that they shared with Phil and Sarah and each other. Sarah was quite literally moved to tears. And so many ladies stayed afterwards to give Phil and Sarah letters, gifts, and drawings. What a generous group of women. Thank you to everyone for being a part of such a special event.

SAIS has started to feel like home after three days of performing and workshopping with the students here. So much thanks to Raquel Rubio and Michael Day for putting together such an extensive program.
